Opening of the Extension 2006 and further Royal Visits

Lyndsey Taylor, Park Lane Events, on behalf of The Caledonian Club

Hotels, venues and members clubs throughout the UK are preparing to re-open post-COVID-19 for openings in July, August or September of this year.  The Caledonian Club, which is available for dry hire all year round, (which means exclusive use of the house, just without any staff) is preparing to open for meetings and events from September to coincide with market trends and requirements.

The terrace and bar shall open before then for members and small groups, adhering to government guidelines.

Re-opening brings back memories of the opening of the extension, as mentioned in last month’s blog. 2006 saw the Johnnie Walker, Library and Drawing room added to the club to provide more function rooms, as well as more bedrooms and the intimate outside terrace. It was officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Philip. Oh to have been a fly on the wall that day!

It was not the only time Her Majesty The Queen and HRH Prince Philip have visited, especially as Prince Philip is an honorary Member.  The club is well versed in entertaining dignitary throughout the years, with long-service staff offering the relevant experience and discretion that often comes with a private members club.

In 2012 for example, while preparations for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations were under-way around the country, the Caledonian Club was honoured to welcome Her Majesty The Queen in her capacity as Colonel-in-Chief of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland at their annual Luncheon. HM, The Queen was appointed as Colonel-in-Chief of The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise’s) by her father, HM King George VI, on her 21st birthday in 1947.

Her Majesty is greeted by past Chairman Ranald Munro on her arrival at the Club on Wednesday 30th May 2012.
