Saint Margaret’s Day – Gala Dinner

On the 4th of November 2014 the Hungarian Ambassador hosted the inaugural dinner in honour of St Margaret at the Club, with His Excellency Janos Ader President of Hungary, as guest of honour, and Her Royal Highness Princess Michael of Kent patron of the event, highlighting the legacy that Scotland, England and Hungary share through Queen Margaret.

Queen Margaret, wife of Malcom III of Scotland, was instrumental in establishing, among other things, a Queensferry for pilgrims to cross the Firth of Forth. She was a very pious lady and she was canonised in 1250 by Pope Innocent IV in recognition of her fidelity to the Church, work for religious reform and charity.

In keeping with the main purpose of this event the Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh together with the Hungarian Embassy launched The Queen Margaret Legacy Programme to provide professional development opportunities to students. The program will begin in the autumn 2015 with the Budapest’s famous University of Theatre and Film Arts.
